Story & Characters
Story
The year is 2117. The evil Arelian Empire has been in control of planet Earth for decades. Initially, the Arelians brought peace and prosperity to a world ravaged by war, disease and ecological devastation. Later, they controlled Earth's inhabitants through fear, using their henchmen, the Zorn, to abduct people when they turn 30. Now, a band of rebels rises up to fight against the Arelians. A new recruit, Jorel, quickly advances through the ranks and becomes their leader. He organizes the rebel forces and builds a powerful army. Soon, he'll challenge the Arelian Empire for control of planet Earth.
Characters
Jorel
Jorel is the main character played from the beginning, and ultimately destined to become the supreme commander of the rebels. He is a young, idealistic natural born leader, determined to avenge the death of his entire family as they tried to fight against the abduction of his mother by the Zorn.
Jorel rejected the skull implant in early childhood, indicating a very strong mind with immense hidden psionic potential. His family kept him hidden from the Arelians by claiming he died at a young age, and because such early rejection of an implant was unknown at the time, the aliens accepted this story.
Once his family was gone, Jorel travelled south to join the rebels. He is plagued by strange dreams in which an Arelian by the name of Klaatu contacts him telepathically. Jorel is convinced that these are just dreams at first, but later in the story Klaatu becomes very real.
Jorel has good aptitude in all areas, but particularly in leadership. He begins with rifle and hand guns skill, level 1.

Ruby
Ruby is from South America, and fled home as soon as she could. She was selected for special tests by the Arelians, and was abducted at regular intervals. However, the skull implant malfunctioned after she fell in a riding accident and nearly lost her life. After being nurtured back to health by her mother and sister, she was urged to flee. She finally gathered the courage to go after her mother was taken away by the Zorn.
Ruby is plague by nightmares caused by here repeated abductions. The purpose of these is still a mystery, but Dr. Bronstein has her own theories about the Arelians' motives. She is best friends with Jorel and Zak, but Zak has the greatest affection for her, whereas Jorel is more interested in the rebel cause.
Ruby is a skilled marksman and begins the game with rifle skills level 2.

Zak
Zak is one of the older recruits at the training camp. He is immensely strong and loyal, but does not speak much about his past. He has had experience fighting the Zorn in his home town, which rebelled en masse against abductions. He longs to find his younger sister, who fled before the town was attacked and his parents killed.
Zak begins with level 1 heavy weapons skill.

Commander Jonlan
Jonlan is one of the oldest, and grizzliest rebel soldiers. He is in charge of training new recruits, but once was a corporal and highly respected leader. An incident occurred where many people perished in a raid where he commanded rebel troops. Although he was cleared of blame by the rebel tribunal, he opted for demotion out of a sense of guilt and responsibility. At least, that's the story he tells people, but in reality he is looking for the next rebel leader amongst the many new recruits heading into the jungle. Once he has found the one recruit with all the right qualities, he will nurture that recruit and impart some vital, and secret information.

Arelians
The Arelians are small, grey-skinned, humanoid creatures with a very large head and large, black, almond shaped eyes. They don't like to participate in battles, but when they do they prefer to rely on their psionic power and advanced technology to win. They generally lack courage or much battle skills, but they are still formidable opponents if encountered.
|
Zorn
The Zorn are a militaristic race of carnivorous humanoids. They are large and muscular with green reptilian skin, fiery red eyes and a jaw full of sharp teeth. They relish fighting, but are slow witted and less intelligent than the average human. They have long been used by the Arelians as the janissaries of the empire. On Earth they acted as the Arelians' loyal police force, carrying out the abductions of 30-year-olds under the supervision of Arelian commanders. The Zorn were rewarded with flesh. The abductees were taken to Zorn cities where they took part in gladiatorial contests against each other, or were forced to fight Urdogs and other beasts. Once dead, their flesh was consumed as a delicacy. This was the blood pact between the Arelians and the Zorn, in which the fate of humanity served the mutual benefit of both races. |
Fraylar
The Fraylar have a skinny, humanoid appearance, with an insect-like exoskeleton and bony appendages. They don't appear to have eyes or a nose, but they have a large bony mouth and a smooth egg-like head. They are renowned throughout the galaxy as traders and thieves, and are quite happy to fight if they see an advantage. They are good with sniper weapons, close combat and stealth tactics. They also employ the services of Snakeflys - a large, flying insect like creature with a poisonous bite. |
Urdogs
Urdogs are brutish beasts, a combination of dog and insect, on a very large scale. A particularly fun spectator sport for Arelians is to watch humans desperately fight for their lives in matches against Urdogs. They make good "pets" for the Zorn (whom you met in a previous screenshot release), as they are good hunters and often bait humans in battle.
Because Urdogs rely heavily on their sense of sight and smell, special grenades can be used to obscure smell or create a certain deafening sound that reduces the risk of Urdog detection. They also travel in packs, so if you see one Urdog, you can expect that more are hidden in the surrounding environment. |
Fire Beetle
The Fire Beetle is a native species of the Fraylar home world. It is a giant insect like creature with a very tough exo-skeleton. It has six legs for movement, while other appendages are used for grabbing and eating. It rears up to attack, standing nearly four metres high. It spits burning fire globules at enemy creatures, which can inflict severe damage to Rebel armor. |
Reaper Beast
The Reaper Beast is the favorite terror weapon of the the Zorn. The bipedal beasts look a little like a Tyrannosaurus Rex with two tails and a fur covered body. The Zorn rear them on earth where they are used to terrorize human towns and cities. The Reaper’s powerful jaws are deadly, but fortunately it lacks the intelligence and ability to use weapons.
